Jon Stewart has confronted MAGA criticism of Bad Bunny‘s Super Bowl Halftime Show by asking one important question: “When did the right become such f****** p******?”

The political commentator and comedian took to The Daily Show on Monday (9 February) to mock conservative tantrums over the Puerto Rican rapper’s widely-acclaimed inter-match concert during Super Bowl XL last week.

Right-wingers have been raging in the days following the 31-year-old ‘King of Latin Trap’s’ record-breaking musical performance on Sunday (8 February) over claims it was “anti-American”.

US president Donald Trump was among those who expressed offence over the show, calling for a boycott of the entire Super Bowl.

Stewart, 63, chastised the widespread hysteria during the broadcast, accusing offended MAGA Republicans of hypocrisy over free speech.

“When did the right become such f****** p******?” he said. “Remember 2017? Remember what you hated about liberals? Perpetually offended, safe spaces, censoring free speech, culture of victimhood. Remind you of anyone?”

A vocal critic of right-wing rhetoric, Stewart further argued that the manufactured “culture war” on social issues, such as LGBTQ+ and migrant rights, had only served to prove that the MAGA movement’s actions contradict their beliefs.

He used right-wing organisation Turning Point USA’s “All American” half-time show – scheduled as an alternative to Bad Bunny’s performance – as a prime example of this. The performance, which suffered from several technical issues, featured performances from controversial figures including Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Gabby Barrett, and Lee Brice.

Stewart added: “For all of MAGA’s triumphalism, it’s not a movement that seems confident in its position. These people who control every branch of government are so triggered by someone singing in Spanish for 20 minutes, they need to create their own safe space alternative halftime show.

“It’s actually f****** pathetic. The gap between the power you wield and the victimhood you all claim is the real offence. If you didn’t actually have the power to do so much damage in our country, I think we would all dismiss it as a weak and pathetic pity party. That’s what you’re throwing.”

Bad Bunny breaks records with Super Bowl Halftime Show

Turning Point’s alternative performance gained just a fraction of the viewership that Bad Bunny’s did, according to The Independent. Approximately 6.1 million concurrent viewers tuned in to watch the right-wing performance.

Meanwhile, Bad Bunny’s celebration of Latin American culture, LGBTQ+ rights, and global unity through compassion, was watched by a whopping 135.4 million people, making it the most-watched Super Bowl Halftime Show in history.

Fellow artists tagged along to help make the performance as incredible as possible, with appearances from Ricky Martin, Lady Gaga, and many more.

Republicans are reportedly so outraged over Bad Bunny’s positivity-focused concert that some have called for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to investigate it.

Florida congressman, Randy Fine, described the performance as “illegal” and demanded “dramatic action” from the FCC according to MS Now.

Fellow Republican Andy Ogles went further on Monday, calling the performance “pure smut” that he argued was “illegal to be displayed on public airways”.

The Tennessee politician called upon the Energy and Commerce Committee to launch a “formal congressional inquiry” into the National Football League (NFL) and broadcast NBC over what he described as the “prior knowledge, deliberate approval, and facilitation of this indecent broadcast”.

“American culture will not be mocked or corrupted without consequence,” he added.

The following day, Missouri Republican Mark Alford claimed that congress was already “investigating” the show, failing to elaborate on what he meant specifically.
