Winter Olympic condoms are reportedly being sold for £90 online after athletes suffered shortages.
The Milano Cortina games kicked off on 6 February, with 2,871 athletes staying in the Olympic Village. They were provided free condoms for the stay, but ran out after just three days.
According to reports in La Stampa, fewer than 10,000 condoms were made available across various Athlete Villages. By comparison, at the Paris Olympics in 2024, athletes were provided with a supply of 300,000 condoms.
However, the reason for the extraordinarily quick shortage may be down to people nabbing them as souvenirs or to sell them online.
As per The Sun, an image of official condoms from the Athlete Village reportedly appeared on marketplace Vinted, with a single packet being sold for €105, which is around £91. The official condoms don’t appear to be on sale on the UK’s Vinted app.
Ahead of the condom shortage, British-Spanish skater Olivia Smart, who got engaged to her former rival on Valentine’s Day, took to TikTok to share her search for contraception in the village.
She shared in the clip, which showed the yellow Olympic condom packaging: “I found them”, adding of the space she was in: “They have everything you need.”
“I would 100% assume those were tea bags,” someone joked in the comments section.
The Milano Cortina 2026 organising committee told People: “We can confirm that condom supplies in the Olympic Villages were temporarily depleted due to higher-than-anticipated demand.
“Additional supplies are being delivered and will be distributed across all Villages between today and Monday.
“They will be continuously replenished until the end of the Games to ensure continues availability.”
