Karamo Brown says he was ‘forcing connections’ amid Queer Eye fall-out

Karamo Brown has said he was “forcing connections” amid the most recent Queer Eye drama.

The 45-year-old life coach has been the culture expert on the reality series since 2018, helping people overcome trauma, anxiety and insecurities. Along with Antoni PorowskiTan France, and Jonathan Van Ness, Brown fronted all 10 seasons of the show. Jeremiah Brent replaced Bobby Berk after the latter left the show in 2023.

However, Brown pulled out of several media interviews promoting the show’s tenth and final season, citing being “mentally and emotionally abused for years” as the reason for his no show.

On Tuesday (17 February), he took to Instagram to share the meal he had made the night before.

He then went on to explain that he grew up without the love of his “homophobic” father, adding that he would “force connections with others” because of his abandonment issues.

‘Is there anybody in your life that you’re forcing a connection with?’

“Baby, that was keeping me trapped and unhappy,” he said, adding: “Is there anybody in your life that you’re forcing a connection with? You show up for them, you give to them, but you never get that back? You leave the conversations feeling depleted? That’s your sign that you’re forcing a connection.

“I don’t want nobody in my life that does not see the value in me. If you don’t love me the same way I love myself, which is key, because I love me, so you gotta bring equal to what I got bringing over here. You can’t come in here and not bring what I’m already bringing to the table. You better come with that or elevate.”

He continued: “Once you start to realise the love I have for myself is not being mirrored back for me, the healthier your life will be. I get it, you want the connections. You feel like, ‘I don’t want to be alone.’ But there’s a difference between being alone and lonely. You hear me? You might be alone but you ain’t lonely. And if you’re feeling lonely, just hit me up… I’ll be your friend.”

The video comes a month after his drama with his Fab Five co-stars, with Brown having unfollowed Van Ness, France and Porowski on social media

Van Ness spoke with News.com.au about the drama, saying that he was “proud of him for doing what he needs to do to take care of himself”.

Porowski said that to say he was surprised by the drama was “a fair understatement”, while Brent stressed that his experience at Queer Eye has been positive.
