Donald Trump blasts LGBTQ+ ally Robert De Niro as ‘sick and demented’ for criticising president

Donald Trump has seemingly threatened to deport “sick and demented” Robert De Niro after the Oscar-winning actor called the president “an idiot”.

The Taxi Driver star, 82, has been a vocal, ardent critic of Trump for years, but most recently decried Trump for “destroying” America.

Speaking to Nicole Wallace on news channel MS NOW’s ‘The Best People’ segment, De Niro called Trump “an idiot” adding: “We gotta get rid of him. He’s gonna ruin the country.”

“I don’t want everybody going around with their MAGA, the American flags, like they’re the only ones. We are Americans too,” he continued.

He appeared to get emotional as he condemned Trump for his “f***** up” actions and continually dividing people.

“The story is our country, and Trump is destroying it, and who knows what his reasons are, but it’s sick, it’s f***** up. We have to save this country,” he urged.

“You have to lift people up,” he said, his voice breaking. “You have to bring them together. You can’t divide people, you can’t win that way.”

Trump, writing on his social media platform Truth Social, blasted De Niro for speaking out against him, and seemingly threatened to have the actor, who is an American citizen, deported.

Trump began his lengthy tirade by attacking Democrat Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, who are the first two Muslim women elected to Congress. The pair had spoken out against the president’s immigration crackdown during his controversial State of the Union address on 24 February.

He said that both Representatives – who he described as “mentally deranged and sick” – should be “institutionalised” or sent “back from where they came as fast as possible”. Both women are US citizens.

Trump then wrote that Omar and Tlaib “should get on a boat” with the “deranged… sick and demented” actor Robert De Niro. He claimed that the actor had “extremely low IQ” and “absolutely no idea what he is doing or saying”.

“When I watched him break down in tears last night, much like a child would do, I realized that he may be even sicker than Crazy Rosie O’Donnell, who is right now in Ireland trying to figure out how to come back into our beautiful United States,” he wrote, referencing O’Donnell’s decision to leave America following Trump’s return to office.

“The only difference between De Niro and Rosie is that she is probably somewhat smarter than him, which isn’t saying much. The good news is that America is now Bigger, Better, Richer, and Stronger than ever before, and it’s driving them absolutely crazy!”

On 24 February, De Niro headlined ‘State of the Swamp’, an event running counter to Trump’s State of the Union address. During his speech, De Niro urged US citizens to mobilise against Trump ahead of the midterm elections in November.

“I feel betrayed by my country,” he said at the event, which took place at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., around the corner from the White House.

“It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it does need to return to the values that gave us our strength and humanity,” he said. “If you’re devoted to the Constitution and the rule of law, if you want the United States of America to be worthy of your love, be ready to take the streets together, and we will take our country back.”

During his State of the Nation address, Trump condemned gender-affirming care for trans teenagers, telling the crowd that the US must “ban it immediately”.

Last year, Robert De Niro spoke out in support of his trans daughter Airyn, 30, saying that he didn’t “know what the big deal is” about her transition.

“I loved and supported Aaron as my son, and now I love and support Airyn as my daughter,” he said.

Airyn De Niro told PinkNews last year that her famous father had offered to take her to her gender-affirming care appointments.
