Boy George could be set for Eurovision 2026 finals, but, oddly, not representing for the UK.

The Karma Chameleon singer is instead running to represent the tiny republic of San Marino.

Boy George automatically qualified alongside nine others for the micro state’s national selection, the San Marino Song Contest finals, which will be held on 6 March at Teatro Nuovo in Dogana.

The Culture Club singer will compete in the contest alongside Sammarinese Eurovision alum Senhit with a track titled Superstar. Senhit represented San Marino at Düsseldorf in 2011 and performed Adrenalina (feat. Flo Rida) at the Grand Final of Rotterdam in 2021.

Eurovision fans have taken to social media to discuss Boy George’s bid to perform at Eurovision, with some writing that they would love to see him perform, while others have suggested it could all end in tears once people look at his past.

In 2009, George was jailed for falsely imprisoning and assaulting a male escort.

Last year, at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest, San Marino was represented by Tutta L’Italia by Gabry Ponte.

Representing the UK at the 70th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna this May will be Indie-electronic musician and YouTube influencer Sam Battle, known by his stage name LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER.

Eurovision 2026 is set to begin with the semi-finals on 12 and 14 May, with the grand final taking place on 16 May. While this year marks the contest’s 70th anniversary, the celebrations will likely be undermined by increasing backlash over the European Broadcasting Union’s (EBU) decision to allow Israel to continue taking part in the contest.
