Miley Cyrus has shared that she was among “the first” to reach out to Chappell Roan when the latter began experiencing struggles with her rapid rise to stardom.
In an 18 March interview with Variety publicising the upcoming 20th anniversary of Hannah Montana, Cyrus explained her worry for the “Pink Pony Club” singer.
She shared that, growing up, she had the support of music legends like Dolly Parton, Joan Jett and Stevie Nicks as her mentors. Chappell Roan publicly opening up about dealing with fan harassment and challenges with paparazzi resonated with Cyrus.
“I never bow down to bullies,” she said. “Anytime I feel like somebody is being bullied, I feel very protective of them. When I see people struggling, I’m always the first one to ask, ‘Can I get in contact with them?’ I’d like to show artists how they can have a balanced life.”
Roan recently made headlines after confronting photographers who would not leave her alone outside a restaurant during Paris Fashion Week. Instead of attempting to ignore or avoid the photographers, the “Good Luck, Babe!” artist pulled her own phone out and started recording them.

“When you’re disregarded as a human, this is what it’s like,” Roan said as she spun the camera around. “I’m just trying to go to dinner and I’ve asked these people several times to get away from me.”
Roan went on to say the group of paparazzi are “all the people who are completely disregarding all of my boundaries”, adding she had asked them to stop “following” and “harassing” her.
The incident in Paris was not the first time Roan called out photographers for their behaviour towards her, sparking much conversation amongst fans about how celebrities are expected to accept the treatment of aggressive paparazzis.
Back in the summer of 2024, after her stratospheric rise to fame thanks to a long list of sapphic pop bangers, Roan posted a series of TikToks urging her fans to stop “harassing” her in public and sought to set her personal boundaries.
In the videos, Roan listed off several instances which led up to the public plea with her fanbase and over parasocial relationships with celebrities, including fans kissing her without her consent, following her to hotel rooms and turning up at her parents’ house.
