The billionaire owner of subscription platform OnlyFans, Leonid Radvinsky, has died at the age of 43 after living with cancer.
The London-based company confirmed Radvinsky’s death on Monday in a statement to Bloomberg.
It read: “We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Leo Radvinsky. Leo passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer.
“His family have requested privacy at this difficult time.”
The online platform was founded in 2016 by Tim Stokely, with Radvinsky buying a major stake in 2018. Under his ownership, it became the phenomenon it is now known as, particularly within the adult content creation sphere.
The platform saw a surge in popularity during the Covid-19 pandemic, with many performers unable to work. It gave them an alternative way to make money, while also avoiding bans that would come with other social media platforms.
OnlyFans is best known for hosting adult content, with more than 4million registered creators.
However it said in October 2021 that it would no longer allow that explicit material after pressure from banks which the company used for payments. After intense backlash, that decision was reversed just six days later.
While largely used by adult performers, a number of high-profile celebrities have signed up including rapper Cardi B and actor Tyler Posey.
A number of others have spoken openly about the money they have made on the platform.
Gay Great British Bake Off star John Whaite said during an Instagram Q&A last September that he’d made £199,147 in the 11 months since he’d joined it.
But he noted he could have “quadrupled” that figure if he’d given more time to it.
“It’s not just about making content, it’s about marketing and catching people’s eyes and giving them a reason to subscribe,” he said.
