It appears singer Chappell Roan can’t catch a break, as over the weekend she was hit by more accusations of bad behaviour with fans.
Since her rise to fame, she has spoken out multiple times about the boundaries she has in place for when she’s working and when she’s not. The 28-year-old has been seen asking paparazzi not to follow her and has even had fellow stars, like Miley Cyrus, speak out in support of her.
But she faced backlash again this weekend after footballer Jorgino claimed an encounter with her left her “in tears”.
What did Jorgino say about Chappell Roan?
The sportsman, who is married to Catherine Harding, who shares a daughter with actor Jude Law, claimed on Instagram that Harding and her daughter had spotted Roan at the hotel they were staying at in São Paulo for Lollapalooza.
“My daughter, like any child, recognised her, got excited and just wanted to make sure it was really her,” he wrote.
“And the worst part is she didn’t even approach her. She simply walked past the singer’s table, looked to confirm it was her, smiled, and went back to sit with her mum. She didn’t say anything, didn’t ask for anything.”

He claimed “a large security guard came over” and “began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and my daughter, saying that she shouldn’t allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people”.
The footballer claimed the security guard said he was going to file a complaint with the hotel, which left his daughter “sitting there in tears”.
He said that while he understood boundaries, having been in the public eye himself, “it’s sad to see this kind of treatment coming from those who should understand the importance of fans”.
Chappell Roan responds
“Pink Pony Club” singer Chappell Roan spoke directly to fans in a video on Instagram, to give her “half of the story”, making it clear the security guard was “not my personal security”.
She said: “I didn’t even see a woman and a child. No one came up to me, no one bothered me. I was just sitting at breakfast at my hotel.”
Roan went on: “I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child. I did not. They did not come up to me. I did not do anything.
“It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions when they have no reason to believe it as there’s no action been taken.”
She said: “I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children, like that is crazy. I am sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something.
“If you felt uncomfortable that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.”
Catherine Harding speaks out
After Roan’s response, Catherine Harding shared her own version of things, claiming: “This wasn’t a security guard of the hotel, that’s what I can say, he looks after artists.”
She went on: “Now I don’t know if he’s her personal security guard but he was with her, so that is all I know. Did she send him to do it? Again, I don’t know, I would like to hope not.
“But at the same time you have a responsibility when you are a celebrity that the people who work for you and act on your behalf are acting on your behalf.”

She went on to suggest it was a “big problem” if the guard had acted without Roan’s say so, “because then he is representing her in a way she doesn’t want to be represented”.
Harding said her daughter “didn’t have her phone, she didn’t try to take a picture, she didn’t do anything, she just looked at [Roan] and smiled”.
She said the security guard had acted in an “aggressive and intimidating” way and “berated” her parenting.
“I did try to explain to him that she was a child and she was just excited to see an artist she liked,” she said.
She finished by saying: “I hope [Roan] did not know, I hope she did not send her security over to do this. I really think she is a very very talented artist. We liked her a lot. We came all the way to São Paulo to watch her show.
“It was her birthday present, she asked for tickets. It was a little bit ruined because we didn’t go to the show last night, but that’s how it is.”
She added: “I hope that maybe if it wasn’t her that maybe she learns not to allow the people who work for her not to treat people like this.”
