Netflix has finally confirmed that Bridgerton season 5 will follow the same-sex romance of Francesca Bridgerton and Michaela Stirling.
Fans of the period drama have long been hoping for more queer representation, after Benedict Bridgerton had a brief bisexual storyline. And when he married Sophie in season four, fans feared that may be it.
But the end of the season saw Francesca’s husband John die, after she had started a strong friendship with his cousin Michaela. Michaela is a gender-swapped version of the character from Julia Quinn’s novels on which the show is based.
Today (24 March), Netflix has announced that Bridgerton season five is officially in production.

To go with the exciting news, they shared glamorous photos of actresses Hannah Dodd (who plays Francesca) and Masali Baduza (Michaela).
The fifth season of the show will pick up two years after the death of John. Middle Bridgerton daughter Francesca decides to get back into the marriage market for practical reasons.
However, when Michaela comes back to London to look after the Kilmartin estate, Francesca’s complicated feelings return to.
They will have her questioning whether to stick to her guns and marry for practicality, or follow her inner passions.
