Girlguiding sets September deadline for trans girls to leave after ban

Transgender girls must leave the Guides by September 6, Girlguiding has said.
The deadline comes after the December 2025 decision to stop allowing trans youngsters from joining groups as part of its updated inclusion policies. In the fallout of the Supreme Court’s judgement that the 2010 Equality Act’s definition of a woman refers to “biological sex” only, Girlguiding announced late last year that “with a heavy heart” trans girls and young women would no longer be able to join groups.
Now, with the September 6 deadline, affected members have “time to plan, prepare, access support, and decide when – between now and September – they feel ready to leave”, Girlguiding have said.

The organisation said they decided on the date “to give as much notice as possible, so all current members are able to take part in activities during the summer term and over the summer holidays”.
The decision affects trans members of Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers and young leaders.
They have also said that volunteer roles open to “women only” will no longer be offered to trans women.
“Any trans girl or trans woman who is currently volunteering in a role open to women only will need to move to a role open to everyone by 6 September 2026,” the organisation added.
Responding to the update, advocacy group Trans+ Solidarity Alliance said: “Inclusive organisations being bullied into excluding people against their will is a profound failure of this government to live up to its promises to the trans community.
“This news will be heartbreaking for the children and volunteer leaders that hold Girlguiding together, to fix a problem that doesn’t exist without anti-trans lawfare.”
Girlguiding have said: “Although our membership approach has changed, our belief in dignity, respect and inclusion has not.
“We will continue to work towards a fairer, more equal world for every girl.”
