Anna Friel plans joint 50th and 21st birthday party with daughter Gracie

Anna Friel has revealed she is planning a joint birthday party with her daughter Gracie, celebrating Friel turning 50 and Gracie turning 21 a few days earlier.

Speaking at the RTS TV Awards, Friel said: “I’m going to have a joint birthday party with my daughter, who’s turning 21 a few days before, so we’re going to have a joint 50th and 21st!” She added that her 50th birthday is in July.

Friel also shared an update on what Gracie, now 20, is juggling alongside her music. “Well, I’m here tonight and she’s elsewhere, as she’s got a gig. She’s got a really big audience, she’s a great singer-songwriter and she’s been doing it all by herself, at the same time as doing her dissertation because… I’ve got a daughter finishing university in May!” she said.

Reflecting on when she first noticed Gracie’s musical drive, Friel added: “I realised it since she started played guitar for two hours every day, from the age of seven. So, instead of watching TV or anything, she was upstairs in her room, constantly playing and singing.”

RTS TV Awards and Unforgivable

Friel attended the RTS TV Awards after being nominated for her supporting role in Jimmy McGovern’s BBC drama Unforgivable. The one-episode, 90-minute drama centres on a woman called Anna, played by Friel, dealing with the fallout after her brother is released from prison following abuse of her son.

“It’s really moving. It’s Jimmy McGovern, who’s still one of my very favourite writers. It’s actually the third time I’ve worked with him. I think a lot of people found it a very tough watch as it makes you look at it through so many different angles and perspectives and there’s understanding from both sides of it,” she said.
