A new billboard campaign championing transgender people is appearing across highways in Kansas.
Declaring “God Made Trans People” in bold letters, these billboard were put up just weeks after the state moved to invalidate transgender residents’ identification documents.
Launched in late March by Mayday Health, the four-week campaign spans major routes in Kansas City, Topeka, and Wichita, aiming to reach more than a million drivers as trans Kansans navigate daily life with IDs that no longer reflect who they are.

On 26 February SB 244 went into effect, requiring all state-issued identification to list sex assigned at birth, reversing prior policies that allowed updates to gender markers.
The change has left many trans people without valid identification or forced to carry documents that misrepresent them. “We want trans Kansans to know while they’re driving to work, to the grocery store, throughout their own state, we want them to see themselves reflected back,” said Mayday Health’s executive director, Liv Raisner in a 26 March interview with The Advocate.
“We’re not arguing with them about politics. We are meeting them on their own terrain. If you think God doesn’t make mistakes, that includes trans people,” Raisner added.
Each billboard directs viewers to Mayday Health’s website, which provides resources for gender-affirming care as well as mental health and financial support, as organisers push back against what they describe as a broader rollback of trans rights in the state.
“Legislators can pass laws that erase trans people from their documents,” Raisner said, “but they cannot erase trans people from Kansas.”
