Queer erotic thriller Night Stage, an exploration of exhibitionism and fetish, hits cinemas today: a perfect film for the Easter weekend!

Night Stage had its world premiere at the 2025 Berlin International Film Festival, where it was nominated for both the Best Feature and the Panorama Audience Award.

The film is from partners and co-writer-directors Marcio Reolon and Filipe Matzembacher.

What is the plot of Night Stage?

Night Stage follows the secret affair of an actor and a politician. As 41-year-old Reolon and 37-year-old Matias embark on a sensual odyssey, they discover a fetish for exhibitionism.

What starts off as sex with the windows open becomes a boundary-pushing fiction on public sexual encounters.

The Night Stage is also underscored by gay cruising culture. As Reolon wants to be elected Mayor and Matias strives for a mainstream acting career, the nature of their connection is challenged.

The film’s synopsis reads: “Addicted to the thrill of risk, seeking out more dangerous encounters that threaten to expose their relationship and destroy everything they’ve worked for, unable to resist the compulsion even as the stakes grow higher.”

What are reviewers saying about Night Stage?

The film currently has an impressive 90% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Guardian’s review states: “And the sex-fantasy aspect of the drama becomes almost its sole point in the crazily climactic and borderline-absurd final minutes.

“It is a film which interestingly sets out to strain its own credibility, but it is also extravagant and subversive.”

Eye for Film’s review also adds: “The film is shot in gorgeous shades of noir by Luciana Baseggio, and has a deliciously dark, sultry score.”
