Could next James Bond be female as Sydney Sweeney tipped to be ‘super-spy’

Forget Aaron Taylor John, Callum Turner or Jacob Elordi – Hollywood director Paul Feig reckons Sydney Sweeney should be the next Bond.
James Bond has always been played by a man since the spy movies started in 1961. And since most recent 007 star Daniel Craig confirmed he was stepping away from the role, the question of who would be the next Bond has been a hot topic among movie fans.
A few queer actors’ names have been thrown in the ring, like Boots star Max Parker or Wicked favourite Jonathan Bailey, but Feid thinks now is the perfect time to shake things up – and Sydney Sweeney is his top pick.

Feig, who worked with Sweeney on The Housemaid, said: “There have been some cool Bond girls, but come on, let her be the super-spy, she’s great.”
He added to The Sun: “She’s one of the hardest-working people I know, so professional, so smart, so savvy. I think she’d be a good spy.”
Could there be a female Bond?

We can think of countless female Hollywood stars who could embody the role – but the series’ producer Barbara Broccoli has thrown water on the idea a number of times.
In 2018, she told the Guardian: “Bond is male. He’s a male character. He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as a male.
“And that’s fine. We don’t have to turn male characters into women.”
She repeated it in 2020, telling Variety: “James Bond can be of any colour, but he is male.
“I believe we should be creating new characters for women – strong female characters.
“I’m not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that.”
When is the next James Bond movie?
Daniel Craig’s final outing as the spy was in 2021’s No Time To Die. But there is little news on when the next movie in the spy franchise will be released.
It was announced last June that Dune director Denis Villeneuve was on board as director, while Steven Knight would be writing the script.
There has been no information on casting either, or when production will begin.
At the end of 2025, Heyday Films told Screen Daily that “no timeline has been set on when the first feature in the relaunched franchise will be made or released”.
