Timothy James Truett (J. Reuben Long Detention Center)
A man has been arrested after an alleged shooting at an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina last Wednesday (1 April).
Thankfully, there were no injuries in the shooting, as reported by WIST.
Police say 37-year-old Timothy James Truett opened fire outside Pulse Ultra Club, shattering the rear passenger window and windshield of a vehicle belonging to the venue’s owner.
Authorities later pulled over a car matching surveillance footage they had seen of the incident, driven by Truett, and reportedly recovered a firearm and shell casings from the vehicle.
Club owner Ken Phillips told WIST his main concern remains the safety of his patrons. “My primary concern has and always will be the safety of my community and my customers. [The shooting has] given me great concern … as to how far people will go.”
While investigators have not publicly confirmed a motive, Truett is facing charges such as possession of a weapon during a violent crime, discharging firearms into a dwelling, damaging property, and hate intimidation.
The case marks the first time Myrtle Beach’s hate intimidation law has been used since its introduction in 2024.
At the time of writing, Truett is currently being held in J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $312,174 bond.
