Editorial Policy
Across PinkNews and our subsidiary brands, our aim is simple. We want to tell stories that matter, to inform, inspire, empower and entertain our audience.
Accuracy and fact checking
We make every effort to ensure our stories are accurate and fair. Our team checks key facts before publication and we always try to give proper context, especially when a story is still developing. When a piece contains opinion or analysis, we label this clearly so that readers know that they are looking at opinion based journalism.
Political neutrality
PinkNews does not take party political positions. While we have a clear editorial stance in favour of LGBTQ+ rights and diversity, our role is to report fairly, clearly and accurately on political actors and issues, regardless of their political party. When we cover politics, we focus on facts, context and impact rather than partisan viewpoints.
Corrections and updates
Sometimes new information comes to light. Occasionally we make mistakes. If that happens we aim to correct it as quickly as possible.
If we update an article after publication to fix an error or clarify something important, we add a note at the bottom saying what has changed. If a correction relates to a social media post, we will place the correction in the comments or replies if the platform allows.
Historic content
With the exception of errors or corrections, we do not alter historic articles unless there is a legal requirement. We think that content published in the past two decades by PinkNews provides an important historic record. Changes are only made when we receive a court order or when an update or a removal is required under precedents that emerge from Right to be Forgotten rulings from the European Court of Human Rights. Readers who think they may qualify for this should first apply directly to Google and Bing, as their removal processes often provide a more practical solution.
Use of AI
Like all media companies, we use AI tools to help with some back office tasks and to perform tasks such as synthetic voiceovers for certain videos. These tools support our workflow but they do not create our journalism for us. Everything we publish is researched, written and produced by trained journalists, video producers and editors.
Comments and community discussion
Comments on PinkNews articles across our own website, social platforms and syndication partners are unmoderated by PinkNews. We do not accept liability for comments made by third parties. If we are notified about a comment that appears to break the law or breach the terms of a platform, we will review it after publication and take appropriate action where required.
Sources and transparency
We link to primary sources, documents and official statements whenever we can so that our audience can see where information that we rely on comes from.
