The White Lotus creator Mike White addresses season three backlash: ‘Enjoy the edging!’

Mike White, creator of HBO smash The White Lotus, has addressed viewers complaining about the third season of the satire.

After yet another season of on the nose satire and and an all star cast getting up to no good, the guests of the White Lotus Thailand have checked out – well, some of them.

But despite the series containing at least one count of premeditated fraternal incest, a snake attack, a weirdly Darth Vader-esque ‘I am your father’ reveal, an armed robbery, Posey Parker high on prescription painkillers and three c*nty blonde white women bitching about each other before showing us the true meaning of friendship, viewers have largely deemed the season as the least ‘interesting’ of the three, with many taking swipes at the finale.

Creator Mike White is having none of it, though, after appearing on The White Lotus Official Podcast to recap the season as a whole – and he’s got some stern words for those complaining.

“There was complaining about how there’s ‘no plot,’ and that part I find weird because [The White Lotus] never had a plot! Part of me is just like… bro, this is the vibe, I’m worldbuilding.

“You know what I mean? If you don’t want to go to bed with me, get out of my bed! I’m edging you! Enjoy the edging! If you don’t want to be edged, get out of my bed! Don’t be a bossy bottom!”

The season finale saw not one, not two, but four deaths – and viewers initially thought it would be five.

After his presumed father’s killer rocked up at the resort, Rick’s (Walton Goggins) newfound serenity disappeared rather quickly, resulting in him putting a bullet or two in Jim Hollinger’s (Scott Glenn) chest.

But it turned out that Jim was his father, and in the following gunfight between Rick and Jim’s goons, Rick’s innocent, pure, sweet girlfriend Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) got sent to the White Lotus in the sky, with Rick following shortly afterwards by Gaitok (Thyme Thapthimthong).

And, the demon twink of the season, Lochlan Ratliff (Sam Nivola) nearly met his end too, drinking a protein shake laced with the seeds of the ‘suicide fruit’ – but after chucking his guts up, he lived to terrorise his brother forever more.

The White Lotus is available to stream on Max in the US and Now TV in the UK.
