Celebrity Big Brother star JoJo Siwa has openly discussed her gender identity, saying she relates closely to ‘beautiful non-binary people’.
JoJo Siwa’s time so far in the Celebrity Big Brother House has been a rollercoaster; she’s clashed with now-ejected Mickey Rourke, who indirectly referred to her as a “f*g” and even started an unexpected bromance with Love Island star Chris Hughes.
And in the show’s latest episode (15 April), she has come under fire for potentially breaking rules – but it turned out that Big Brother was mistaken.
JoJo and Chris were called into the Diary Room for a suspected rule break, with Big Brother assuming that the pair had been discussing nominations via the pair writing on each other’s hands the night before.
“It’s something I’m not ready necessarily to be open about or up front about but it has to do with gender and how do I feel and… this is a lot,” JoJo said after being asked what they were discussing, becoming overwhelmed at the topic.
“Essentially you have female, you have male. I’ve met a lot of females, love them, don’t feel like I’m them. Met a lot of males, love them, don’t feel like I’m them – definitely not them.
“Met a lot of people in my life that are non-binary, and these beautiful non-binary people are who I feel the most like and it’s not something that I want to say about myself yet but it’s something that is confusing. So that’s why we were talking about it last night,” JoJo said.
“It’s important to be honest and also show that it’s OK to not know.”

Later in the garden, following a hug from Drag Race UK winner Danny Beard, JoJo tearfully said, “It’s a great conversation, and one that I shouldn’t be scared of having.”
Recently evicted TV host Trisha Goddard asked, “Why should you be scared?”
JoJo replied, “I don’t know myself all the answers. We’re good, it’s great. There’s nothing to do, nothing to change… No different way to think of anything.”
“As long as you know who you are,” Trisha said. “The truth is, it might hurt. People might judge you. But if the people you know and you love and your community and your support know the truth, today’s headlines are tomorrow’s [fish and chips] paper.”
Celebrity Big Brother, hosted by Will Best and AJ Odudu, is available to stream on ITVX. Live shows air Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV1 in the UK.
