A teaser trailer and release date for season two of Netflix’s Wednesday are finally here, and we’re excited!

The two-minute teaser gives a taste of what we can expect from another macabre and spooky season of the hit series. Things open with Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega, going through security at an airport. A laborious task at the best time, it doesn’t seem to faze the unflappable Ms Addams.

When the metal detector goes off and she is asked “Anything else on your person?” Wednesday produces a knuckleduster before also planting a Taser, numerous blades and other weapons, and a pepper spray, on a table.

A security guard looks in her bag and finds The Thing but prefers to take issue over a tube of sun cream. Wednesday admonishes The Thing for bringing it, but the dismembered hand just shrugs… well, sort of!

After that, we are reunited with the rest of the weird family: Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Gomez (Luis Guzmán) and Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez).

“This is the first time you’ve ever willingly returned to a school. How does it feel?” Morticia asks as Wednesday arrives back at Nevermore Academy.

“Like returning to the scene of the crime, I already know where the bodies are buried,” comes the reply.

Wednesday then reunites with the more-colourful Enid (Emma Myers), who still has white hair with blue and pink streaks. Some fans speculated this was trans-coded, also factoring in her storyline about being a werewolf who had trouble transitioning into her supernatural form.

Enid’s parents have considered sending her to a “conversion” camp to help her through the process, which some fans saw as a nod to so-called conversion therapy.

Later we see Wednesday tied up at a long dinner table along with some very creepy dolls, Morticia and Gomez dancing, and a shot of series newcomers Steve Buscemi and Joanna Lumley, as well as a possible new villain.

Lumley is joining as Hester Frump, “Morticia’s mother and Wednesday’s closest ally,” while Buscemi plays new headmaster Barry Dort.

“Wherever there’s murder and mayhem, you’ll always find an Addams,” says Wednesday towards the end of the trailer. This is followed by Morticia saying: “Every family has dark secrets Wednesday, and secrets can have deadly consequences.”

We also glimpse the return of queer star Hunter Doohan.

Right at the end it’s revealed that season two will be shown in two parts. The first will start on 6 August with the second following on 3 September.

Ortega has previously teased that season two will lean “into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more”.

Season one of Wednesday is streaming on Netflix now.
