Ryan Guzman is leaning into fan theories that his 9-1-1 character Eddie Diaz could be leaving the show, cryptically teasing him “signing out” from the role.
At this point, 9-1-1 fans are fairly used to crushing disappointment. Be that in the form of leading fan-favourite characters, like Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause), departing in the most devastating of circumstances, or fan-demanded romances never quite coming to fruition (Buddie, we’re looking at you).
Yet the departure of Ryan Guzman – who plays Eddie Diaz, one half of Buddie – would be too much for fans to bear. Until Eddie and Buck (Oliver Stark) have become involved in a romance of explosive proportions, many 9-1-1 fans will not let Guzman leave the show’s set.
Since season eight episode eleven, Eddie has been stationed in El Paso, Texas, living with his son Christopher. Some fans have bemoaned the character having reduced screen time, and pondered whether the procedural drama could be gearing up to announce his shock departure.

In Instagram Stories posted by Guzman earlier this week, the actor teased the character “signing out”, appearing to lean into the fan conspiracies.
“Well, it officially happened. It’s the last day on this lot,” Guzman said, as he highlighted a plaque outlining all of the TV productions that have been created on Stage 6 of the Fox lot.
“9-1-1, part of the legacy. Stage 6, I’ll miss ya. Seven years. That’s crazy,” he added.
Diaz joined 9-1-1 for season two, and so has spent the last seven years filming in the lot.
“Had a moment reflecting on moments. Grateful. Thank you, God,” he adds in the clip.
“Welp, guys, season eight in the bag. That’s it. No more Fox lot. Eddie Diaz, signing out.”
While a handful of 9-1-1 fans were initially fearful that Guzman was gearing up to announce his exit, others have noted that he was simply referring to 9-1-1 changing its filming location, from Studio 6 to Burbank.
Deadline reports that Disney will be vacating the Fox lot before its lease expires next March, with productions being moved to Burbank in California.
The publication also reports, through unnamed sources, that Guzman has no plans to step back from 9-1-1 and will continue playing Eddie Diaz.

Fans have had their fears further extinguished by the fact that the actors behind “best friends” – or should we say best buddies – Eddie and Buck will be taking part in Buzzfeed’s Thirsty Tweets segment.
Buzzfeed confirmed yesterday that Guzman and Stark took part in the viral game together ahead of the 9-1-1 season eight finale, which is set to air on 15 May.
9-1-1 airs on ABC in the US and Disney+ in the UK.
