9-1-1’s Oliver Stark has said that Buck’s bisexuality will be explored more in the ninth season to “help educate an audience.”

The British actor stars as Evan ‘Buck’ Buckley in the ABC/Hulu show about Los Angeles first responders, which returned on Thursday (9 October). Ryan Guzman plays Eddie, who a lot of fans want to see finally get together with Buck.

Stark, who previously hinted that the much-loved duo of ‘Buddie’ might get more air time in latest season, has shared that Buck’s bisexuality will be explored in season nine in a bid to quash “ignorance” surrounding the character.

Speaking to to US Weekly, he shared: “I do think there’s been some ignorance around people thinking that Buck is now a gay man, because since his coming out we’ve seen him with Tommy, and that’s it.

“And not that he has to now go run off and be with a woman just to balance that out or anything. But there just needs to be conversations to help educate an audience. Not in a heavy way, not in a beating anybody over the head with it, but to delve deeper into it.”

‘I see no reason why he won’t use the word bisexual’

The 34-year-old said he hopes the education comes from “actions” and “conversations” that Buck has with himself, adding that he is confident 9-1-1 will do what it can to “try and highlight that more” as the season goes on.

He shared that Buck won’t be “actively trying to date anybody” any time soon, but will “find himself in some situations”, despite “actively pursuing anything” romantic being out of the question for the moment.

Stark revealed that Buck may even feel ready to use the word bisexual in the latest season.

“I see no reason why he won’t use the word bisexual, but he’s certainly talking about his bisexuality. I don’t know if he uses the word, but he’s certainly very honest and open about the fact that he is attracted to more than one gender in upcoming episodes.”

What has Ryan Guzman said about Buddie in season nine?

Speaking to On the Red Carpet, Guzman responded when asked about where Buddie’s relationship will lead on the show:

“They’ve tied their own kind of storyline, I guess, to Buck and Eddie,” he said of the show’s fans. “We love the love. Who knows what will happen with those characters? I love their relationship and what they convey already. The fact that they’re very supportive of each other, allowing each other to grow in front of one another without judgment.”

“It’s a great thing to show on television nowadays,” he concluded.
