David Tennant has sapphics gagged after his adorable reaction to learning that he’s loved by lesbians.
The Doctor Who star and LGBTQ+ ally appeared in a BAFTA Television Awards Nominees’ Party interview with comedian and presenter Charley Marlowe on Thursday (8 May), where he was asked what his top three TV shows of all time are.
Tennant confirmed his favourites are the 1999 drama The West Wing, Max’s The White Lotus and reality series The Traitors.
But it wasn’t long before the conversation derailed, with Marlowe announcing that although she’s a lesbian, “I quite fancy Jack Davenport.” This brought Tennant onto his own question for Marlowe, “Top three men fancied by lesbians.”
“Jack Davenport, I’m gonna say Patrick Dempsey,” she began. “I’m not going to make it weird, but I am going to say you, because I’ve seen a lot of comments.”
To this, the actor flashed his Cheshire cat grin and walked towards the camera, beaming. “Thank you very much,” he said humbly. “Even if it’s a lie, I’m very happy that our interview ended that way.”
In a response that was giving “holding space for the lyrics of ‘Defying Gravity’”, Marlowe assured her interviewee: “No, it’s not. I’m online a lot, and I see what people say on TikTok.”
“I like it here, thank you Charley,” Tennant concluded.
“David Tennant is a top lesbian diva,” Marlowe also confirmed in the comments.
It wasn’t long before fans took to the comments sharing their delight over the actor’s reaction. “He’s the cutest, look how proud he is. He knows the lesbians got the best taste,” one wrote on X.
Another viewer shared: “When I was a wee baby lesbian he was definitely one of the few men I felt safe thinking was lovely, and now that I’m an old transmasc pan I think young me had excellent taste.”
“Of course we fancy him,” echoed another. “He’s the most babygirl celeb to ever babygirl. He also plays a lot of characters with sad wet cat energy, which we are hardwired to respond to.”
The actor is nominated for Leading Actor at the BAFTA Television Awards for his role in Rivals on Disney+, going up against the likes of Baby Reindeer’s Richard Gadd and The Responder’s Martin Freeman.
The 2025 BAFTA Television Awards take place on Sunday (11 May) on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
