Eurovision 2025 is well underway after last night’s (Sunday 11 May) turquoise carpet where many of this year’s stars appeared.

The 69th Eurovision Song Contest is taking place in Basel, Switzerland with the two live semi-finals on Tuesday (13 May) and Thursday (15 May). The Grand-Final will then take place on Saturday (17 May).

But for die-hard Eurovision fans, celebrations last the whole week (even longer considering everything that happens in the run up, really) and as always, things kicked off with the turquoise carpet.

On Sunday stars of this year’s contest turned out in force and in full glamour to show off some impressive looks and get us amped up for the week to come.

Among those to make an impression last night was Luxembourg’s Laura Thorn who looked the picture of royalty as she appeared on top of what looked like a large gold key carried by five strapping men in burgundy ensembles.

They matched Laura’s corseted outfit and as one person commented: “this is giving met gala.” Iconic behaviour and we are merely her subjects.

Meanwhile, Iceland’s Eurovision stars – Væb – turned the turquoise carpet into their dance floor, bringing fun and flair to the event. They showed up in more of their signature silver colour.

PinkNews also spoke to the girls of Remember Monday, the UK’s entry this year. They brought “Regal British” glamour to the turquoise carpet with their custom outfits by Agro Studios.

They also showed of the Aston print from their outfits, similar in colour and design to their stage looks, which features the four national flowers of the UK – the rose, the thistle, the daffodil, and the flax.

“We really, really hope that our performance feels like a Remember Monday show. We want it to feel like we’ve taken over the place,” said Holly-Anne Hull of the trio.

Australia’s Go-Jo, who is bringing the barely euphemistic ‘Milkshake Man’ to Eurovision 2025 shared with PinkNews their fun and fearless tips on how to face your fears.

“The best thing to do is to eliminate fear and to remember fear is not your friend. And that if something does come to you and you’re feeling like you shouldn’t [do it] because of fear, I think you should do it,” they said.

He likened it to looking at a crazy rollercoaster and said “you do that,” adding “you’re going to feel so liberated. You’ve embraced life. You’ve taken it by the actual ball sack and you squeezed the s**t out of it.”

Bookies favourites, KAJ of Sweden, who honour the timeless Finnish-Swedish tradition of visiting saunas (not that type, we think) in their song ‘Bara Bada Batsu,’ shared their favourite things about saunas.

“You go there, you relax with your friends, both mental and physical health benefits,” said one of the trio.

A number of LGBTQ+ acts including Austria’s JJ, another favourite to do well, are set to perform this week as well.

Hosted by Hazel Brugger, Michelle Hunziker, and Sandra Studer, the live shows will see every country perform though as per usual, the Big Five – the UK, Spain, France, Italy, and Germany – as well as the hosts, Switzerland, will automatically qualify for Saturday’s Grand-Final.

The live shows will be on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer on Tuesday 13, Thursday 15, and Saturday 17 May from 8pm in the UK.
