Frank Ocean could maybe, soon, possibly, probably not, be sharing new music for the first time in a decade.
It’s been nine years since Frank Ocean, elusive singer-songwriter and purveyor of queer music magic, released his last album, 2016’s critically-lauded masterpiece Blonde. Yet fans are hoping – somewhat optimistically – that he could be about to make a music return.
Last week (15 May) eagle-eyed lovers of the “Lost” singer spotted posters being placed up around Tokyo which simply read “Frank”, alongside a QR code.
Once scanned, the QR code led to a newly-created Instagram account with the handle @franciswupperman, a reference to Frank Morgan, real name Francis Wupperman, who was best known for playing The Wizard in the 1939 queer favourite film, The Wizard of Oz.
The Instagram account’s name is also O.Z.P.I.N.H.E.A.D, a reference to The Wizard’s full name (Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs).

Adding fuel to the fire, the account only follows one person: Frank Ocean.
While inquisitive (and hopeful) fans plied the Instagram account with follows – at the time of writing, it has more than 70,000 followers – the account itself has stayed silent. Until now.
In a carousel post featuring three images, the word “frank” appears in bold, black lettering, against white, grey, and red backgrounds.
“FRANK. A tale of three parts… begins next week,” the account cryptically wrote.
Though a wave of fans are foaming at the idea of getting their hands on the first Frank Ocean music project in nearly ten years, others are far more wary.
“I won’t believe it until I have the vinyl in my hands and im on my 8th listen,” one dubious fan wrote.
“You better not be a troll or I’ma leak your address + social security number,” a second joked.
A third neatly summarised: “Prank Ocean.”
PinkNews has reached out to Frank Ocean’s representatives for comment.
It’s unsurprising that a number of Ocean’s fans would be sceptical. Back in 2023, during his most recent Coachella performance, the “Swim Good” star reportedly teased that there was “not not a new album” on the horizon, before playing a short clip of a new song on his official Instagram account.
Two years on though, and that new song – or any other, for that matter – has not materialised.
Ocean’s most recent tracks were “Cayendo” and “Dear April”, released way back in the spring of 2020.
In the intervening years, he has busied himself with his first fashion project “Homer”, and his first directorial film debut, which was confirmed in January 2025.
It will star BAFTA-winning Rye Lane actor David Jonsson and will shoot in Mexico City, but as of yet, has no plot details, title or release date.
