Doctor Who star David Tennant has revealed the Marvel superhero he was keen to play, before the role went to The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal.
Though David Tennant is best known for his role as British quasi-superhero the Doctor in Doctor Who, the Scottish actor has revealed that until recently, he had his sights set on playing an actual, fully-fledged superhero – cape and all.
Tennant appeared at MCM Comic Con in London over the weekend (23-25 May), and was grilled by a fan on which superhero he’d like to play if offered the chance.
He began his answer by gushing about his role in Marvel’s Jessica Jones series on Netflix, and explained that he was once keen to step back into the MCU.
“I think in terms of supervillains I got the best one with Kilgrave,” Tennant answered, referencing his role in Jessica Jones.
“In terms of superheroes I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards and unfortunately it looks like they’ve gone in a different direction,” Tennant said, teasingly referring to Mister Fantastic in the Marvel comics and the star who ultimately got the gig.
“Although if it has to be someone I’m very happy for it to be Pedro Pascal.”

The internet’s favourite daddy Pedro Pascal is set to play Mister Fantastic in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, set for release in cinemas on 25 July.
Pascal will star in the role alongside Pieces of a Woman star Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Stranger Things’ Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, and The Bear’s Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing.
Tennant’s aspiration for the role of Mister Fantastic is hardly new; he first spoke about his keenness to play the part back in 2013.
“I’m a bit old for a lot of them now, which is a terrible, alarming truth. Who could I be? I could probably still do Reed Richards – Mister Fantastic,” he said at the time.

Elsewhere during his fan Q&A at MCM Comic Con, Tennant teased a mysterious, upcoming role.
Asked whether there is a character from a series he enjoys that he’d like to play, the Good Omens actor responded: “You mean that I haven’t done yet? Oh well there is, but I can’t… just in case it happens.
“I don’t want to [say]… there’s something we’re working on right now that hopefully will come to fruition and will answer your question. But it’s too soon to say,” he said, via Bastion.
“So hopefully I’ll have an answer to your question. I just can’t give it to you now. But in about… maybe in about six months, a year’s time if everything were to go to plan, there may be a wee announcement.”
