New York City celebrated Father’s Day by paying homage to the ultimate internet Daddy Pedro Pascal, hosting a Pedro Pascal lookalike contest in his honour.

On Sunday 15 June, a rabble of men clad in black vest tops, rakish moustaches and tousled chestnut locks arrive in New York’s Lower East Side, hoping to bag a grand prize of $50.

In the end, it was Pedro number five – aka The Daily Show lighting designer George Gountas – who was chosen as the contestant who most resembles the The Last of Us actor.

In addition to the coveted $50 prize, Gountas also won a year’s supply of burritos from NYC’s Son del North Mexican restaurant.

It was Gountas’s wife Jenny Gania who signed him up to the Pedro Pascal lookalike competition, because her husband had been compared to the actor since he appeared as Oberyn Martell in HBO’s Game of Thrones.

Speaking to the New York Post, Gania recounted:  “It started when the Game of Thrones came out the first time, that’s when we first heard it.

“Then some kids started noting it, too, so I was like, when we saw this [contest], I was like, ‘It’s Father’s Day. You have to go. It’s going to be your Father’s Day treat.’

“It’s funny, because he’s not on social media at all. But now he’s going to be everywhere.”

Gountas was one of around 30 members of the public who arrived to show off their handsome, Pedro Pascal-like visages, some decked out in his most notable attire. One arrived wearing a “Protect the Dolls and all Immigrants” T-shirt, a spin on the “Protect the Dolls” T-shirt Pascal helped popularise earlier this year, in support of transgender women.

Online, a slew of Pedro Pascal fans have praised Gountas and his competitors for being blessed with Pedro Pascal features.

“This is like the first lookalike contest where the contestants actually do look as close as possible [to] their celebrity counterparts,” wrote one fan.

“This is the first time the winner of one of these made me do a double take. I really thought Pedro pulled up,” a second added.

A third shocked fan added: “WAIT—THATS NOT HIM????”

The Pedro Pascal lookalike contest is the most recent in a slew of celebrity lookalike competitions, with Paul Mescal, Harry Styles, and Jeremy Allen White all seemingly having doppelgangers.

In October, A Complete Unknown star Timothée Chalamet crashed his own lookalike competition – but didn’t win.
