Modern Family star Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, who played Lily Tucker-Pritchett in the long-running ABC sitcom, has come out as bisexual using an iconic scene from show.
Aubrey Anderson–Emmons has celebrated Pride month in the best possible way; by coming out as bisexual.
The 18-year-old star, who is best known for portraying the daughter of Jesse Tyler-Ferguson‘s Mitchell Pritchett and Eric Stonestreet’s Cam Tucker on seasons 3 to 11 of the iconic sitcom, did so with one of the show’s most iconic scenes.
In the scene, Lily is confused about sexuality being the same as one’s nationality or heritage, with Gloria Delgado-Pritchett (Sofia Vergara) telling the youngster: “You are Vietnamese”.
Lily then replies: “No, I’m not, I’m gay, I’m gay,” to which on screen father Mitchell replies, “Honey, no, you’re not gay. You are just confused!”
Lipsyncing to the sound in a video posted to the star’s Instagram, Anderson-Emmons cheekily wrote, “People keep joking so much abt me being gay when I literally am (I’m bi).”
The post was captioned, “Happy Pride month to all and to all a goodnight hehehe,” as only an icon would.
Anderson-Emmons’ fans have swarmed her comments with congratulations – including many noting how proud her on-screen Dads would be of her.
“Omgggg cam and mitch would be so happy,” one wrote, with another adding, “Coming out to this audio is truly iconic.”
Many others have wished her a happy Pride. The video has been viewed over 1.5 million times.
Anderson-Emmons joined the long-running sitcom in 2011 during season 3; she remained a part of the cast until its final eleventh season in 2020.
The Emmy-winning sitcom is also widely recognised for having one of the most celebrated gay couples on TV in the form of Mitch and Cam. The couple were fan-favourites, and Stonestreet said that he was “hurt” by ABC rejecting a spinoff for the pair.
