PinkNews can exclusively reveal the trailer for The Diana Mixtape, a new musical featuring RuPaul’s Drag Race stars re-telling the story of Princess Diana through huge pop hits.
Described as “a concert/musical/event like nothing you have experienced before”, The Diana Mixtape sees Drag Race favourites Rosé, Priyanka, Kitty Scott-Claus, Courtney Act, and Divina De Campo all playing the People’s Princess.
Through “fierce choreography”, “iconic fashion throwbacks”, and a soundtrack that has likely filled a thousand gay bars, the show will “set the record straight” on Diana’s humble beginnings, relationship with then Prince Charles, and what happened after their marriage ended.
The show will include music by pop icons including Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Kylie Minogue, JADE, and Chappell Roan.
While the Drag Race stars will all play Princess Diana, it’s up to The Greatest Showman star Keala Settle to play Queen Elizabeth.
Hear’Say singer Noel Sullivan will play Prince Charles, and Mamma Mia! The Party actress Lucinda Lawrence is Camilla.
In the show’s first trailer, shared with PinkNews, the five drag superstars are seen decked out in top-class Diana drag, donning one of her signature looks: a black blazer, pumps, and a pixie cut.
The look in the trailer’s final scene, which sees the drag icons in black roll necks and pearls, is a riff on her famous look from the portrait captured by photographer Patrick Demarchelier.
“The Princess of Wales would like to make a short statement,” booms an audio overlay as the queens storm into London’s HERE At Outernet, where the show will be staged.
Then, the searing strings of Britney’s “Toxic” and a note from the pop icon’s “Stronger” play.
“Do you think you will ever be queen?” comes the next line.
“I’d like to be the queen of people’s hearts,” comes Diana’s quip.

Speaking to PinkNews earlier this month, the stars of Diana The Mixtape shared the pop girlies that they think our Di would stan if she were still with us today.
Courtney Act believes that Diana would be a Lady Gaga-loving Little Monster, Priyanka says she would’ve been fond of Little Mix, and Kitty Scott-Claus thinks she would’ve had a Brat Summer last year.
Divina De Campo said she thought Diana would enjoy Chappell Roan and Ava Max, while Rosé believes she would’ve been a Sabrina Carpenter kind of girl.
The Diana Mixtape will stage at HERE At Outernet from 29 July to 10 August.
It will then appear at the Lowry in Salford, from 19 to 21 August. Tickets are available now.
