Cardi B’s team has insisted that the title of her latest album, Am I The Drama?, isn’t a reference to a quote from RuPaul’s Drag Race.

The “Bodak Yellow” singer broke the news of her upcoming album on Monday (23 June). Its cover shows her dressed in red, set against a moody backdrop and surrounded by crows. Above the singer hangs her name as well as the title.

After it was posted, Drag Race‘s Jan shared an image of the cover, saying: “Scarlet Envy, I am shaking.”

The album’s title is identical to one of Scarlet Envy’s more-memorable moments on the show.

While promoting All Stars 6, Scarlet at one point said: “Is it me? Am I the drama? I don’t think I’m the drama. Maybe I am… Am I the villain? I don’t think I’m the villain.”

@pinknews Cardi B’s team has confirmed that her new album title ‘Am I The Drama?’ isn’t a reference to Scarlet Envy’s iconic quote from Drag Race All Stars. Speaking to ET, Ashley Kalmanowitz of Atlantic Music Group said: "While Cardi's album inspiration comes from her real life drama, she loves Scarlet Envy and they're in talks to work together soon." It’s a line that has transcended Drag Race and even the queer community, taking on life of its own on platforms such as TikTok where it has been lip-synced countless times.

And Jan was not the only one to draw a connection between Cardi B and Scarlet. One person wrote online: “[Scarlet] your power”. Another joked that that the queen “is getting her royalties”.

Scarlet herself referred to the album title, writing: “You are the drama, mamaaa.”

The new album will be Cardi B’s first since Invasion of Privacy, which won a Grammy in 2019. It will feature 23 tracks, including “Wap” and “Up”.

Am I The Drama? is due to be released on 19 September.
