The Dragula star, Dollya Black, has marked Pride month by coming out publicly as trans.

The season three finalist of the Boulet Brothers’ hit drag show made the declaration on Instagram at the beginning of Pride Month, saying she had been on “a journey of discovery”.

That journey, she said, also clarifying she uses she/they pronouns, included starting hormone treatment six months ago.

“I went back and forth about sharing this because i get so nervous about being perceived,” she wrote. “I’ve tried so hard to cultivate a positive experience around my gender and haven’t opened up much about it publicly due to my reservations on a negative reaction”.

However, Dollya said that they are “filled with so much pride and joy” from reflecting on their journey. “Everyday i feel more and more like myself and who i want to be,” they went on to say.

Dollya continued: “I want other people, who think they might be trans and are seeing this, to not feel alone. You are beautiful”.

She thanked those who had supported her and encouraged her along the way, as well as her husband. “You are so so important to me and make me feel so blessed. I love you so much,” she wrote.

Towards the end of her post Dollya also confirmed that she’ll be doing by Dakota (we presume out of drag) from now.

Speaking to Pride about coming out Dollya said she came out publicly to “share some trans joy”. She told the website, “Being trans has been such a positive thing for me, and that she feels “blessed” to have had an “uplifting” experience.

“I wanted to just show a trans person happy and feeling beautiful and supported. Something simple that could maybe give someone a thread of hope.”
