Queer TikTok star and presenter Charley Marlowe has landed a new gig presenting on BBC Radio 1.

Marlowe, who also provides the voiceover on BBC’s groundbreaking lesbian dating show I Kissed A Girl, will be taking on a leading role in BBC Radio 1’s summer 2025 schedule.

Throughout August, she will be presenting the Friday Early Breakfast slot (5am to 7am BST). Former Hits Radio duo Mylo and Rosie will host the slot during July.

In a statement reflecting on her new role, Marlowe said that she was “absolutely buzzing” to be joining the Friday Early Breakfast team.

“I will be playing as much Jane McDonald and Kylie Minogue as the BBC allow,” she joked.

“Otherwise you can expect anything from a show tune to Madonna (not really any less camp, is it?). At least the chaos and confusion will wake you up, so I’ll see you at 5am.”

Who is new BBC Radio 1 presenter Charley Marlowe?

Charley Marlowe is a Liverpool-born presenter and comedian who began her career via TikTok, where she has amassed almost 700,000 followers. Her funny, down-to-earth videos have also garnered almost 45 million “likes” on the platform.

Since rising to fame on the video sharing app, Marlowe has secured a number of high-profile presenting jobs, including joining the BBC’s presenting team for the broadcaster’s coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Last year, she was also announced as the narrator of I Kissed A Girl, the UK’s first ever dating show for queer women. The hit BBC show, and its companion series I Kissed A Boy, are hosted by Dannii Minogue.

Marlowe previously described herself as “a lucky little lesbian” for being given the opportunity to be the series’ voiceover artist.

In a recent interview with Jessie Ware and her mother Lennie Ware on the pair’s podcast Table Manners, Marlowe opened up about her sexuality and love life, revealing that she met her girlfriend via Instagram.

“She messaged me on Instagram, saying, people say, ‘I look like Jane McDonald’. And then I clicked straight on it,” she quipped.

During the chat, Marlowe also revealed how she came out as a lesbian to her parents.

“I came out to my parents only in 2019. I think they suspected it. I kept handing my mum my phone, and there was a picture of me and my then-girlfriend on the screen. Then it was fine after that. But yeah, we don’t really talk too much about feelings,” she shared.

Charley Marlowe will be hosting BBC Radio 1’s Friday Early Breakfast show from August.
