Like many we were delighted to hear the news that the long-anticipated sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is now in production.
The iconic 2006 film, based on the best-selling novel, starred Meryl Streep as the fierce Runway editor Miranda Priestly, who is widely believed to have been inspired by the doyenne of fashion, Vogue US editor Anna Wintour.
Anne Hathaway starred as the keen up-and-coming journalist Andrea ‘Andy’ Sachs, while Emily Blunt portrayed Miranda’s sharp tongued first assistant, Emily Charlton.
And of course there’s Stanley Tucci who provided plenty of sass as the Runway fashion guru Nigel.
In recent years, the desire for a sequel has gained momentum (not a glacial pace at all) and it was confirmed on Monday 30 June that the sequel had entered production.
Here’s everything we know about it…

What is the plot of The Devil Wears Prada 2 going to be?
We don’t know for sure at this point, but in the earliest reports of a sequel taking place from last year, it was suggested that it could see Streep’s Priestly dealing with “the decline of traditional magazine publishing.”
The online outlet Puck reported last July that Priestley then goes up against her former assistant, Charlton, who is now “a high-powered executive at a Kering or LVMH-style luxury group” whose advertising dollars the editor desperately needs.
Does the original The Devil Wears Prada book have a sequel?
The beloved 2006 film is based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2004 novel of the same name. The author penned a sequel to her book, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, which was published in 2013.
That book is set 10 years after the first and sees Andy planning her wedding while working as an editor for a new bridal magazine. Andy is haunted by her experience with Miranda and the two end up meeting again.
A third book, When Life Gives You Lululemons, was published in 2018.
Will there be a The Devil Wears Prada 3?
It’s certainly possible, given there is a third book, but it’s impossible to say at this point. Maybe it will depend on how well The Devil Wears Prada 2 performs at the box office.
Where is The Devil Wears Prada 2 filming?
The first film was set almost entirely in New York, with a small section memorably taking place in Paris.
We can assume, given the few details we know about the plot, that The Devil Wears Prada 2 is likely going to be set in New York again.

Who is in The Devil Wears Prada sequel cast?
It looks like it’ll be almost a full reunion. Streep, Hathaway, Blunt, and Tucci are all billed to reprise their iconic roles.
Joining them will be British actor Kenneth Branagh as Priestley’s husband, as reported by outlets such as Deadline. The first film featured Priestley divorcing not her first husband, so we can take it Branagh is playing a new man in the editor’s life.
Someone who won’t be returning is Adrian Grenier as Nate, Andy’s boyfriend. This was confirmed by Entertainment Weekly who heard it from two sources close to Grenier.
This probably won’t come as sad news to many with a popular theory being that Nate, and the rest of Andy’s friends , are actually the bad guys for not properly supporting her in her career. This is something Grenier himself has realised over time.
Who is directing the sequel?
David Frankel, the director of the 2006 film, is returning in the same role. Variety reports Aline Brosh McKenna is also returning as screenwriter.
Is there a trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2?
There is not, but we do have a brief teaser to enjoy, which announced the film entering production and features iconic quotes from the first film.

When is The Devil Wears Prada 2 set to be released?
The film is set for release on Friday 1 May 2026. If that’s stuck to, it would mean getting the sequel 20 years after the first. It would also put the release just before the Met Gala 2026, which would be on brand.
