Reneé Rapp has given fans on TikTok some hilarious advice on how to deal with a homophobic parent, and to say she’s iconic is an understatement.

The Mean Girls actress came out as a lesbian whilst appearing as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live last year, after previously identifying publicly as bisexual

The star has since opened up about the “euphoria” she felt after labelling herself publicly as a lesbian for the first time, as well as navigating internalised homophobia after coming out.

Now, the star has a piece of advice for her fans with homophobic parents. On Wednesday (9 July), a fan account on TikTok re-shared a clip of the “Tummy Hurts” singer answering questions from her followers on a recent livestream.

The clip appeared to capture Rapp answering one particular question, which appeared to be, “How do I convince my homophobic mum to come to your show?”

“I don’t know if I want her there, I’ve got to be honest. I feel like you should just run,” she hilariously replied. “But if you’re trying to open up the doors and you want it to be ‘it’s us altogether’ and not ‘us versus them’, that I respect, and you absolutely can bring her,” she offered.

I’ll try sedating and knocking them out cold and let you all know how it goes #reneerapp #wlw #livestream #live

“I’m not sure she’ll like it, I’m not sure she’ll leave being a changed woman, but you could try sedating her and maybe dragging her against her will, perhaps,” Rapp joked.

“Knocking her out cold, and then she wakes up in the middle of GA (general admission) at one of my shows, and she’s surrounded by a bunch of gay people, that might help.”

While we don’t recommend going to those lengths to navigate a relationship with a homophobic parent, we wouldn’t expect a reply any less iconic from the star who once said “straight people don’t exist” to her.
