Female T-pop idol comes out before leaving group: ‘I’m gay, gurl’

Thai girl group CGM48’s Pimnara Rumruaymunkong (Latin) has come out as gay, in response to a fan’s question. 

Taking to her Instagram story, the singer, whose performs under the name ‘Latin’, wrote that when asked if she “WLW or bisexual”, replied: “100 per cent wuhluhwuh (WLW)”. The acronym stands for women loving women and can apply to bisexual, lesbian and pansexual women.

“I’m gay, gurl,” she added, implying that she is a lesbian.

In a now-deleted TikTok from last November, in which Latin used a filter called Do I look like a Lesbian?, someone commented that she did “100,000 per cent.”

Fans of the group have celebrated Latin’s news, with several people writing “queen” on social media in response, and another saying: “Such a win.”

Others went with: “We support you girl,” and “You cannot be surprised.”

CGM48 was formed in 2019 and Latin joined as a trainee. She is set to leave next month. The girl group is known for promoting the culture of the city of Chiang Mai and the Lanna region. through music and performances.

In June, KATSEYE star Megan came out as bisexual, just weeks after bandmate Lara announced she was queer. Megan has become the second member of the girl group to come out this year, following Lara, who came out publicly in March by telling her fans she is “half fruitcake”, after opening up to her friends and family at the age of 14. 

Taking to the South Korean musical artist platform Weverse, Megan joined Lara in a livestream where she shared, “I’m coming out — I’m bisexual”.
