Gay influencer Frankie Cena’s video, in which he criticises JoJo Siwa’s recent comments about the LGBTQ+ community and says: “She’s p**sing me off”, has gone viral on TikTok.

JoJo Siwa, who is dating fellow Celebrity Big Brother contestant Chris Hughes, has changed her look following the revelation that she no longer identifies as a lesbian and prefers the term “queer”. Her cover of Kim Carnes’ 1981 hit “Bette Davis Eyes” then gave her a chance to show off a 50s-housewife aesthetic.

But now, Frankie Cena has now taken to social media to share his opinion that certain things that JoJo Siwa has said in recent months have actually been damaging to the wider LGBTQ+ community.

‘Be mindful of what you’re saying’

In the video, which has been viewed more than 600,000 times, he says: “JoJo Siwa is p**sing me off. If you’re a queer person or an ally, you are f***ing up and doing a disservice to the queer community and this is why: basically, JoJo is saying, ‘I’m not lesbian anymore, I’m pan, I’m bi, I’m open-minded’.

“That is fine, obviously explore your sexuality, be what you want, but the issue comes in an interview JoJo had where she said: ‘I felt pressured by the queer community to come out as lesbian, to label myself’.”

Siwa’s comments fed “conservative views that queer people, or the community, pressure people to come out” and that queerness is on the rise due to “societal pressure”, Cena claimed.

“This is exactly what conservatives say and use against queer people,” he added.

And sent a direct message to the former Dance Moms star, saying: “JoJo, I wanna remind you, you are a public figure, you are a celebrity, I love you, you’re great… but let’s be careful when we go in interviews saying the queer community pressured us to do something, because you’re doing a disservice to us.

“Be mindful of what you’re saying.”

However, not everyone in the comments agreed with him. One person said: “Not a jojo fan but if that’s her lived experience that she felt pressured then her feelings shouldn’t be called invalid. The only one who knows how she felt is her.”

Another pointed out: “Do you guys not remember what happened to (Heartstopper star) Kit Connor? There was absolutely pressure amongst celebrities to put their sexuality out in the open even if they’re not themselves are not ready for it. There is so much pressure on them, especially if they are queer presenting.”

In fact, Cena’s video attracted so much attention that he posted a follow-up, explaining that he cares because it’s about LGBTQ+ rights and he wanted to negate the idea that individuals can “turn [other] people gay”.
