Sorry Niko Bellic fans, rumours of a Grand Theft auto IV remaster aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.
Dreams of high-fidelity bowling with Roman Bellic were born after a user on Reddit highlighted the game’s support page featured the PlayStation 4 as a platform.
The user suggested that, since the 2008 title wasnt released on the PS4, it could be a sign of either a re-release, or a fully-fledged remaster.
The hype and elation was quickly cut short, however, after several commenters noted that Rockstar’s support service not only has a history of mislabelling which platforms its games have been released on, but that, if a remaster were incoming, the support service would likely prioritise ninth generation consoles such as the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S.

The rumours were fully put to rest after an update to the support website removed the PlayStation 4 from Grand Theft Auto IV’s list of platforms.
Neither Rockstar, nor Take-Two Interactive have confirmed or denied whether they are working on a Grand Theft Auto IV remaster. There is no explicit evidence that one is in development.
Nevertheless, fans are still pining for a remaster to the cult classic game, which was renowned for its down-to-earth plotline and wacky physics engine.
Its expansion, GTA: The Ballad of Gay Tony, received acclaim for its gameplay, but has since been branded as “outdated” due to its stereotypes of the LGBTQ+ community.
Its popularity has spawned a huge underground community of fans, including modders who have kept the game alive through an array of game mods, from quality-of-life (QOL) improvements to wacky changes to the game’s mechanics.
The rumours of a Grand Theft Auto IV remaster coincided with one of the game’s most popular mods receiving its first update in over 11 years.
The lighting mod, “Icenhancer 4.0,” improves the lighting of Liberty City to create a more realistic and high-definition look.
As well as general improvements, the mod’s latest update improves the look of clouds and fog, adds more high-definition glass textures, and optimises the mod to run better on Windows 11.
