Kevin Spacey has added his voice to those calling for the release of files related to sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein, in a recent tweet.

The files are said to contain a list of the late financier’s associates allegedly involved in his sex trafficking ring. The list is rumoured to include not only the US President, but Prince Andrew, Spacey, and others.

Epstein was arrested in 2019 on sex trafficking charges and found dead in his cell in New York a month later. It was concluded that he died by suicide though this has been disputed.

The debate about what to do with the files has raged since Epstein’s death with conspiracy theories running rampant. During the 2024 Presidential election campaign, Trump said he would declassify them. However, he told Fox News there was likely to be “phony stuff in there.”

Earlier this month the US Justice Department announced after “an exhaustive review” the files contained no client list. It also said that nothing else would be made public, which has only fuelled theories of a cover up. Since then there’s been infighting within the Republican Party which has only stoked calls for the release of the files.

Posting on X on Tuesday (15 July) Spacey also called for the files to be made public. “Release the Epstein files,” he wrote. “All of them. For those of us with nothing to fear, the truth can’t come soon enough. I hate to make this about me — but the media already has.”

The Se7en actor was found not guilty in 2023 of several charges of sexual assault against four men between 2001 and 2013. He also had a sexual assault case against him in the US dismissed in 2022. Spacey is still facing one accusation of sexual assault against a man in 2008 in a civil trial.

And The Independent reported in February that another case of sexual abuse was filed against the actor, as well as against organisations linked to The Old Vic Theatre in London.

Spacey was first linked to the Epstein files last year when his name was included in a list of associates of the late financier that was made public as part of unsealed court documents relating to a 2015 civil lawsuit. Those named are not accused of any wrongdoing in this case.

In a 2024 interview with Piers Morgan, Kevin Spacey admitted that he had flown to Africa with Epstein, the former President Bill Clinton and a group of “young girls.” Although flight logs confirmed that he had been on board, Spacey initially denied having a connection to Epstein.

Despite the furore surrounding the Epstein files Trump has belligerently maintained that the files are part of a “hoax” by the “Radical Left Democrats” to discredit him and his presidency,

On Wednesday (16 July) Trump also turned on those within his own party who he said had “bought into this ‘bull****’ hook, line, and sinker,” as reported by the BBC.
