Star Wars just confirmed two popular characters are in an LGBTQ+ relationship, and fans across the Galaxy are loving it, to say the least.

The latest in a series of canon comic books, Star Wars #3, sees fan-favourites including Han Solo and Lando Calrissian, return to Cloud City to help “an old friend” whilst experiencing flashbacks to the events of Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back.

During the events of the comic, written by Alex Segura and illustrated by Phil Noto, Luke Skywalker and his squadron of Rebels attempt to track down a band of pirates at the edge of the Fenril sector, only to face an ambush.

During the chaotic showdown, pilot Rynn Zenat contacts fellow starfighter pilot Preeti Delmin to tell her that she loves her before swooping in to help her squadron.

The small but touching moment, in which Delmin reassures her partner that she’s “not some wide-eyed rookie pilot,” confirms that the pair are in a relationship.

First introduced in the 2024 comic book, Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising #1, both Rynn Zenat and Preeti Delmin have quickly become fan-favourites.

Rynn, a B-Wing starfighter for the Rebel Alliance, has appeared in 16 comic book issues since her debut in October, while Preeti has appeared in nine issues.

While far from the first queer Star Wars characters, their relationship is a touching addition to the roster of LGBTQ+ characters in the Galaxy far, far away.

LGBTQ+ representation in the sci-fi series stretches as far back as 1997 in the novel Star Wars: The Hutt Gambit. The character Sarn Shild, whilst not explicitly labeled as queer, is described as having a “sexual preference [that] did not run to human women.”

More recent LGBTQ+ characters include the Clone Trooper, ‘Sister‘, a trans clone who first appears in the 2022 novel Queen’s Hope. In the novel, Anakin Skywalker meets Sister and tells her: “The Jedi are all about transcending things… I don’t think we can complain if you’ve transcended gender.”
