Sapphic songstress Reneé Rapp has just unleashed her new single “Why Is She Still Here?”, and girl, it’s a feisty one.

“Why Is She Still Here?” is the third single from Rapp’s wildly anticipated sophomore album, Bite Me, and the song sees her haunted by the ex-lover of her current lover.

The sweeping, smoky track kicks off with a scalding lyric aimed at her girlfriend, who is keeping her ex in the picture.

“You can tell me you don’t love her, but you should probably tell her too,” Rapp purrs over the R&B-tinged ballad.

“It’s like she’s always in the room. She’s on that towel wrapped up around my head and that note that’s stuck to the mirror I shouldn’t have read,” she rages.

As she belts into the bass-driven chorus, she questions: “No, it’s not fair’ cause if it’s you and I, then why is she still here?”

While Reneé Rapp is evidently furious at the ex for hanging around like a bad smell, it’s her partner who she’s really got gripes with.

“I didn’t say s**t when you introduced me as your friend, uh-uh. And yes, that’s what it is, but don’t you do that s**t again,” she warns on verse two.

In typical Rapp fashion, the song reaches its peak when the lyrics are at their most honest, and their most savage.

“It’s funny ’cause it didn’t feel like friends on the kitchen floor, no. I don’t take friends to the back of my tour bus,” she warbles.

“God forbid I draw in the attention to questions you never answer, well, except for, ‘Who’s f**king you better?’ You got me lowering standards,” she continues.

Coming in at just over two-and-a-half minutes long, “Why Is She Still Here?” is one of the shorter offerings in Rapp’s catalogue. Yet it offers the pop superstar the chance to show off her impressively versatile voice, and unleash the soaring vocals that she should now be known for.

Though Rapp is fairly coy about the subjects of her songs – ahem, “Poison Poison” – fans know that her current girlfriend is fellow musician, Towa Bird.

The pair hard-launched their romance at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in March 2024, and met when Bird opened for Rapp on her Snow Hard Feelings tour in 2023.

“Why Is She Still Here?” comes after Rapp’s two previously released singles from Bite Me, with “Mad” released at the end of June, and the record’s lead single “Leave Me Alone”, which dropped back in May.

Bite Me is released on 1 August.
