The Heartstopper movie has officially wrapped filming and got a release date update, with actors Kit Connor and Joe Locke saying goodbye to Nick and Charlie once and for all.
Alice Oseman, the writer of the original Heartstopper graphic novel series and creator of the Netflix adaptation, confirmed yesterday (27 July) that filming had concluded after 35 days.
In lieu of a fourth season, the upcoming Heartstopper movie will mark the end in Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) and Charlie Spring’s (Joe Locke) queer teen love story.
Netflix has now confirmed that the film will be called Heartstopper Forever, and is set for release in 2026. A specific release date for the Heartstopper movie is yet to be confirmed.
“Day 35. That’s a wrap on the Heartstopper film,” Oseman wrote in a post on Instagram, accompanied by a photo of a tree with “N + C” carved into it.
“I’d never worked in a team in my career before working on the Heartstopper screen adaptation, and the Heartstopper shoots have shown me what magic can happen when so many creative minds come together,” they continued.
“Heartstopper means the world to me, and it’s always been a little scary to put it into other people’s hands, but it’s been met with so much care and passion and dedication and love. I’m so thankful to everyone who has been a part of it… so far! Now we begin the edit!!!”
Both Connor and Locke shared their own sweet reactions to Heartstopper Forever finishing filming, as it marked the last time the two actors will likely ever play the characters again.
On Instagram, Connor shared a photo of himself and Locke in character in Charlie’s bedroom.
“Wrapped. Thank you for everything,” he wrote.
Locke shared a behind the scenes photo of himself and Connor behind a row of beach huts, writing: “Bye Charlie x thank you<3”.
He shared the photo on Instagram Stories, adding: “Wrapped forever.”
Fans and other stars of the adored show have reacted tearfully to the final instalment wrapping up.
Emmerdale actor Bradley Riches, who played James McEwan in season two, wrote “Crying, so proud of you” under Locke’s post.
“It hurts so much that you’ve played Charlie Spring for the last time,” another commented.
“So… a collective sob sesh, everyone? Thank you, Alice, for shining a light on young queer lives,” another fan wrote under Oseman’s post.
“You’ve truly changed the game and etched your place in history because trust us when we say Heartstopper will forever be one of the most meaningful representations for the LGBTQIA+ community.”
The plot – and exact release date – of the Heartstopper movie is currently being kept under wraps, but it is expected to follow how Nick and Charlie deal with Nick departing for university.
It will see the pair’s love story come to a conclusion, several years after the series first dropped on Netflix in 2022.

Residents of Leeds recently spotted Locke and Connor filming in the city’s train station and outside its most prominent LGBTQ+ venues. It’s expected that Nick will select to attend Leeds University, and the film will show the couple navigating a long distance relationship.
Heartstopper launched both Locke and Connor to international fame in 2022, with Locke having since appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wiccan in Agatha All Along, and on Broadway in Sweeney Todd.
Connor has also appeared on Broadway in Romeo + Juliet alongside Rachel Zegler, and in recent war film Warfare.
