Six weeks after undergoing surgery for breast cancer, singer Jessie J has revealed that she was hospitalised after “finding it hard to breathe.”

The “Bang Bang” singer, born Jessica Cornish, shared in April that she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and had had a mastectomy.

However, on Sunday morning (3 August), Jessie J told her followers on Instagram that she was back in hospital after waking up and finding it difficult to breathe.

“How I spent the [past] 24 hours,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside an image of a cannula in her arm.

“Six weeks post-surgery and I was back in the same ward I was after my surgery. Not expected or planned. I had, and still have, symptoms that pointed towards a blood clot on the lung.

“It is not a blood clot [but] they ran a lot tests, which ended up showing I have an infection (still trying to figure out what) and a little fluid on my lungs.

“Finding it hard to breathe in but I discharged myself last night (I hate being in hospital) and will continue the investigation as an outpatient. I know many people who will have gone through this or similar may or may not agree with me on this, and that’s OK. But I know for me, the true hard journey of this whole thing physically was the day I went into surgery.”

‘No idea what’s wrong yet’

Jessie J went on to say her physical recovery has been “far from quick or easy,” and that mentally it has been the “most challenging time” for her and was “unable to be the mother I usually am”. She and professional basketball player Chanan Colman have a two-year-old son.

“Having to change the plans for my career for this year has been frustrating after working so hard to get to the point and excited to do it all. But it’s life. I know that.

“And don’t get me wrong, getting the all-clear was incredible but that result didn’t speed up or make the recovery from the surgery any easier physically.

The singer was back on her Instagram story on Monday morning (4 August), saying: “I haven’t been actively trying to make content, I’ve just been trying to rest. I think people think I’m hanging on by a thread, which in some moments has felt that way, like two or three days ago when I woke up and I couldn’t breathe.

“I still have pain in my chest when I breathe but it’s not as bad and I have very few other symptoms now, so I’m hoping it’s just a viral p*ss-take!”
