Reneé Rapp has revealed that she wants to play the lover of a favourite character on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU).
The Mean Girls star, who came out as a lesbian while appearing on Saturday Night Live in January 2024, after previously identifying as bisexual, has shared that she’s a huge fan of SVU.
Appearing on Today’s “8 Before 8” series, where eight questions are answered before 8am, Reneé Rapp was asked which character she’d like to play if she was ever a guest star on the show.
‘She would be gay, finally’
“I would be Mariska Hargitay’s lover,” Reneé Rapp replied. She would be gay, finally.”
Hargitay plays detective Olivia Benson on SVU.
“There was an episode where they were talking about it and considering if she was gay,” Rapp said of Benson. “I feel Christopher Meloni’s character was like: ‘You’re a lesbian’. And she was like, ‘Um, no’. Liar!”
“I would be her lover and we would somehow get tangled in an undercover kind of [mission], probably with a drug empire.”

Rapp revealed in June that she still has to “constantly” deal with internalised homophobia.
Growing up in an area she described as “super a**-backwards and very conservative”, she recalled “everyone was super f**ked and homophobic, it sucked”.
Reneé Rapp is due to begin touring in September.
