Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Saskatchewan have proposed a “joyful” collaboration with Chappell Roan after her iconic “The Subway” lyric.
Over the weekend fans of the “Pink Pony Club” hitmaker agreed to flock in their masses to the Canadian province after Roan shouted it out on her latest release, “The Subway”.
Released on 31 July, “The Subway” is Roan’s hotly-anticipated second single this year, following on from her sapphic country song “The Giver”.
The new track is a heart-wrenching breakup song, but the singer described “The Subway” as “encompassing everything I love about New York City, with the hope, heartbreak and healing that it has to offer us all”.
Although the music video takes place in New York, mostly in the city’s underground transport system, Roan pledges to move to Canada in a bid to never run into her ex again. “I made a promise, if in four months this feeling ain’t gone / well, f*** this city, I’m movin’ to Saskatchewan,” she sings in the iconic lyric.
And the singer’s shout out touched the local government so much, they’ve written to the star to welcome her to Saskatchewan.

“I’m reaching out on behalf of the Official Opposition in Saskatchewan, Canada – the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party – A party that has long fought for the rights of working people, the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and marginalized groups across our province,” Shadow Minister for 2SLGBTQ+ Affairs Nathaniel Teed wrote in an open letter.
Teed, the first out gay MLA in the province’s history, added that he would love to work with the singer “on an act of joyful queer resistance in Saskatchewan”.
The MLA for the district of Saskatoon Meewasin went on to outline the province’s accolades as “the birthplace of universal healthcare in Canada, home to the oldest Public Arts funder in North America, hometown of Joni Mitchell, and has historically been a haven for queer people”.
He shared his idea of collaborating with Roan to “offer an unapologetic middle finger to bigotry and signal to queer and trans people across this province – especially youth – that they are not alone!
“All this to say, we would love to welcome Chappell to Saskatchewan!”
In another post alongside the Saskatchewan New Democrats leader Carla Beck, Teed said that Roan’s “shout out of Saskatchewan means more than you can know”.
“We know that you’re on tour right now, but when you build out your North American tour, we would love to host you right here in Saskatchewan,” Beck said in the video.
“Come to Saskatchewan, we love you,” the pair concluded.
