The VMA 2025 nominations have dropped – and Beyoncé and Taylor Swift will fight to become the most awarded artist in VMA history.

Even though Mother Monster Lady Gaga is leading the pack with 12 nominations at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, she’ll have some stiff competition.

For example, her Bruno Mars collaboration “Die With a Smile” is nominated for the prestigious Video of the Year award – but will have to do battle with the likes of Sabrina Carpenter‘s “Manchild” and Ariana Grande’s “Brighter Days Ahead“, among others, to snatch it.

Similarly, Mayhem single “Abracadabra” will have to beat out Charli XCX’s “Guess featuring Billie Eilish” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” in the Best Direction category.

But nowhere is the competition tougher than in the list of recently revealed VMA 2025 nominations for Artist of the Year.

Nominated in the category alongside the Wednesday season two star is Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, Morgan Wallen, The Weeknd – and, crucially, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.

Both Swift and Beyoncé are tied for the most awarded artist in VMA history, and should either of them win in the Artist of the Year category, will make history.

Beyoncé, who is the most nominated artist in VMA history (96), has 30 Moonmen statuettes – and Swift’s veritable sweep of last year’s awards brought her level with Queen Bey.

At the 2024 VMAs, Swift picked up seven awards; five for her Post Malone collab “Fortnight”, as well as Artist of the Year and Best Pop.
