Seven divas who have lived The Life of a Showgirl – from Puss in Boots to Bosco

Seven of the internet's fiercest showgirls, as inspired by Taylor Swift's new album (Canva/ Lionsgate/ World of Wonder/ Disney/ Dreamworks)

The Life of a Showgirl, is officially on the way – and with five (five!) separate covers revealed today, here are seven of the internet’s fiercest showgirls, from RuPaul’s Drag Race stars to Shrek characters.

As confirmed 13 August, Taylor Swift has left the Tortured Poets Department once and for all, because she’s in her showgirl era, baby – by which we of course mean that she confirmed her twelfth studio album to be named The Life of a Showgirl.

In a follow up treat for Swifties everywhere, the pop titan then unveiled her album cover (and four alternates) and track list today (14 Aug), along with the release date of 3 October.

But before Taylor, there were many other showgirls. Inspired by the new album title, here are seven characters or celebs that have truly lived The Life of a Showgirl, from Riverdale to RuPaul’s Drag Race – decided, as ever, by the internet.

Bosco – RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 10

Arguably the showgirl from the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise, and as cemented by a recent burlesque lipsync during the finale of All Stars 10, it’s god’s favourite transexual: Bosco.

The season 14 finalist gagged the girls with a headress that turned out to be holding two giant feather fans, with which she used to not only give one of the best performances of the season, but also mop the floor with opponent Daya Betty.

Still, feels weird that the Drag Race account posted this when they played in her face like that, if we may be so bold.

Puss in Boots – Shrek

Played by Antonia Banderas in the whole host of Shrek movies and the feline’s own 2011 spinoff film, the internet has decided that this Puss is one feisty showgirl.

They’ve come to that conclusion, mainly because of a scene in Shrek 2 after the film’s big bad Fairy Godmother is defeated, and Puss and Donkey (Eddie Murphy) perform Ricky Martin’s “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” complete with a bucket of water drenched on Puss.

Puss in Boots, Puss on stage, Puss full stop.

Sharpay Evans – High School Musical

If there’s one showgilr that knows how to bop to the top, it’s Sharpay Evans (Ashley Tisdale) from Disney’s High School Musical franchise.

A back catalogue of certified bangers? Check (“Bop to the top”, “Fabulous”, “I Want it All”). Gagworthy outfits, wigs, and attitude? Check. The title of Disney Channel’s prima donna diva? CHECK.

This showgirl has it all, apart from Troy Bolton.

Mia – La La Land

Not only does she have the invitation, but she’s also got the right address.

Mia, played by Academy Award winner Emma Stone, leads the also Academy Award winning 2016 La La Land, with viewers following her dreams of making it big in Hollywood – becoming a showgirl, baby.

A moment of silence for Mia’s yellow dress during “City of Stars,” please.

Donna Sheridan – Mamma Mia!

Meryl Streep as Donna Sheridan in the Mamma Mia! films is one of the greatest casting choices of our generation, and we will not be taking questions at this time.

I mean, which other character is best friends with Christine Baranski and Julie Walters, and also spent a summer in Greece bonking Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Stellan Skarsgård?

And as for the showgirl part, we’ll politely point you to Donna’s rendition of “Money, Money, Money” and, well, “Mamma Mia,” among many others.

Dark Betty – Riverdale

Riverdale was well and truly wild, and some of the storylines don’t even bear writing down on the page at the risk of us losing our sanity.

But way back in season one, when it was randomly revealed that Lili Reinhart’s Betty had a semi-murderous alter ego called Dark Betty? That’s herstory, mama.

We’re not entirely sold on the ‘Life of a Showgirl‘ link, but if the internet says it, so it shall be done.

Lucy Gray Baird – The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

Who else can say they lived the life of a showgirl like Hunger Games prequel protagonist Lucy Gray Baird (played in its film adaptation by Rachel Zegler)?

No one, that’s who. This diva defied Panem, got into a situationship with President Snow (Tom Blyth), survived the Hunger Games arena with a musical number along the way and basically kickstarted the downfall of the dictatorship across post-apocalyptic America.

You better werk, Lucy Gray.

The Life of a Showgirl by Taylor Swift will be released 3 October.
