RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 10 winner Ginger Minj has responded to accusations of favouritism by explaining that she felt she was at a ‘complete disadvantage’ by being a fourth-time returnee.
The dust has well and truly settled on RuPaul’s Drag Race‘s tenth spinoff of All Stars, and Ginger Minj is undeniably settling into the Hall of Fame.
But despite Ginger having competed on three seasons of Drag Race prior to All Stars 10 – season seven, All Stars 2 and All Stars 6 – she has now insisted to Pride.com that returning for a fourth time actually put her at a “complete disadvantage.”
Addressing claims from the fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race (and other RuGirls) that Ginger was favoured by production on her winning season, she said: “From the moment I was announced on the cast, there were people who created the narrative for themselves that it was favouritism and it was rigged towards me.”
Continuing, Ginger explained: “I felt the complete opposite going in. I felt like I was at a complete disadvantage. I had to pull out all the stops.”
Ginger Minj added of favouritism claims: “I don’t think that ten years and four seasons later, favoritism would certainly start out of nowhere for me. It’s just so wild for me to hear that from other people.
“My win has caused so much controversy. Any art that deserves to be taken seriously is subjective and should elicit a strong reaction.”
Ginger, who made the finale on season seven and All Stars 6, previously slammed favouritism complaints, telling Entertainment Weekly that those with grievances “built the narrative themselves”.
The winner beat season 14 and All Stars 9 queen Jorgeous in the final lipsync of All Stars 10; after Jorgeous’ loss, she told her followers that she felt “hollow”.
