If you’ve been living under a rock, you might not have heard that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged – and everyone is thrilled, apart from ‘Gaylor’ fans.
If you’re not sure what a ‘Gaylor’ is, here’s an explanation: an amalgamation of the words ‘Gay’ and ‘Taylor’, a ‘Gaylor’ is a subsection of Taylor Swift fans convinced that the “Blank Space” singer is secretly queer.
We’ll kick off the rest of this article by saying that Taylor Swift is, and has only ever been, publicly heterosexual, only dated men, and as revealed today, is engaged to one.
That man is long time partner and American Football player Travis Kelce, with whom she shared her engagement to today with an Instagram captioned: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
The post has, at time of reporting, been liked 26 million times. But we’d be willing to bet that none of those likes came from any self-identifying ‘Gaylors’.
The tribe inhabits a ‘Gaylor’ thread on Reddit, where they are doing what can only be described as crashing out. Really hard.
“My brain is fuzzy. Is this real? Is she ghosting him or the gaylors? Are we happy for her?” one person asked on the thread.
One particularly off-the-wall theory intimated that Taylor Swift’s engagement is, in fact, a “counterweight” to her upcoming album being “explicitly queer“.
The user wrote: “Beginning to feel that [The Life of a Showgirl] is going to be VERY explicitly either queer and/or performance art coded, to the point where it needed a very big counterweight like this so the Image stays intact.”
And in one of the wildest takes, another ‘Gaylor’ wrote that the engagement news was “worse than [their] grandad dying.” Poor pops.

“I mean, TECHNICALLY… she didn’t say SHE was getting married. Just that some gym teacher somewhere was marrying an English teacher!” another added.
The subreddit has continuously romantically linked Swift with her female friends, rather than her relationships with men.
Of course, a person can still identify as queer even if in relationships with someone of one gender – but Taylor Swift herself has repeatedly shut down the theory.
She and Kelce, an NFL player for the Kansas City Chiefs, have been dating since 2023.
The Life of a Showgirl, Swift’s tweflth studio album, will be released 3 October.
She announced the record on a podcast with her now-fiancé, and his brother Jason Kelce.
