Twilight fans are wondering if we’re getting a new film after an Instagram teaser, with the caption Forever Begins Again, appeared to hint at the return of the film franchise.
Stephenie Meyer’s fantasy romance novels were adapted for the big screen between 2008 and 2012. It started with Twilight, which was followed by New Moon in 2009, and Eclipse a year later. The last book was broken into two films with Breaking Dawn – Part 1 coming out in 2011 and Part 2 in 2012.
Starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob respectively, the Twilight films made more than $3.3 billion worldwide altogether. This was largely thanks to an ardent fanbase of straight teenagers who were split between Team Edward and Team Jacob, and an even more ardent bisexual fanbase who wanted to be in a polyamorous relationship with Bella, Edward and Jacob.

On Wednesday (27 August) the official Twilight Instagram account posted an image of the faces of three leads in a column above “The Twilight Saga.” The poster also had the words, “Forever begins again.” At the very bottom was “This October” with the caption suggesting more would be revealed “tomorrow” i.e. today (Thursday 28 August).
Fans, unsurprisingly, flipped out, with many believing it to be a new film announcement. “I’ve been seated a 100 years, and I’ll be seated a million more…for youuuu,” wrote one person in the comments.
“This has gotta be recycled unused footage because there’s no amount of money they can pay the actors to go through this again,” added another. And someone else summed up a lot of people’s reactions to the teaser with, “WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT.”
Twilight to return to cinemas this October
However, today the Hollywood Reporter revealed that the original Twilight saga will soon be returning to cinemas, which is very likely to be what the Instagram post was referring to.
Many details are unclear at this stage, such as how will the films be screened in cinemas. Will it be one after another? Or one big sitting? Strung together it would take just shy of 10 hours to watch all the Twilight films, and you’d want to have a break here and there. So, that would take a single sitting up to around 12 hours at least!
But it’s not the only Twilight project fans of the series can look forward to. In 2023 it was revealed that a Twilight animated TV series is in the works with Meyers said to be involved.
We’ve since learned that the series will be based on Meyers’ 2020 book, Midnight Sun, which tells the Twilight story from Edward’s perspective. This was confirmed last year when it was announced the series was being developed for Netflix.
No casting or release date has been announced yet.
