Katya Zamolodchikova has shared a “hysterical” moment from her time on RuPaul’s Drag Race that had absolutely no one laughing, including RuPaul.
The UNHhhh and The Bald and the Beautiful podcast co-host has been revisiting season seven of Drag Race, the first time she competed, along with co-host Trixie Mattel, who also competed on the same season. Both queens would later go on to appear on All Stars, Katya on All Stars 2 and Trixie on All Stars 3, which she won.
In the latest episode of The Bald and the Beautiful where the two queens recapped episodes five and six, Katya shared one story related to her ‘Death Becomes Her’ runway presentation. For this occasion Katya dressed in a sequinned bodysuit with a glittering jacket and a captain’s hat. Her right leg was covered by a stuffed shark to represent a shark attack.

Broadly, Katya called all the runway looks that episode, “terrible,” going on to label hers “so stupid.” Katya then said, “I fought leukaemia for a long time, but at least I had my friends and family by my side.”
She explained it was a random non-sequitur that she came out with when asked by RuPaul, “do you have anything to say?” about the lewk. “Did anyone laugh?” Trixie asks Katya on the podcast to which Katya replies, “Not one. Not even a chuckle, not even a snicker.”
Katya then impersonated Ru’s muted response, “Thank you, Katya,” which the drag queen said was “unbelievable.” Katya went on to say she thought the random line was “hysterical” and “hilarious” given her character obviously died of a shark attack.
In the same podcast episode Katya and Trixie discussed the infamous clash between RuPaul and Pearl in the werkroom, which was apparently even worse in real-life than it appeared on TV. “It was more tense and more awkward than it was on television,” Katya shared.
All episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race are streaming now on WOW Presents Plus.
