A religious rally led by an anti-LGBTQ+ Christian activist in Seattle has been drowned out by a group of protestors playing Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” on the kazoo.
Roughly 200 pro-LGBTQ+ protestors arrived at Gas Works Park in Seattle on Saturday, 30 August, armed with hundreds of the buzzy oral instruments in their hands and the tune of Roan’s number one hit in their heads.
Earlier in the day, Christian activist group Let Us Worship had set up in the park, readying to host an evangelical Christian rally concert dubbed ‘Revive in 25’.
The event was being led by Let Us Worship founder and Christian singer Sean Feucht, who has been noted for his anti-LGBTQ+ remarks and his support for Donald Trump.
He previously referred to the LGBTQ+ community as a “mafia” and a “cult bent on perverting and destroying the innocence” of children.
Feucht also dubbed Pride month a “demonic agenda” which seeks to “destroy our culture”. In 2022, he led protests against Disney after the entertainment conglomerate stated that it opposed Florida governor Ron DeSantis’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill, which prohibits discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in classrooms.

Speaking from the stage on 30 August, Feucht declared that ‘Revive in 25’ was a “biblical” event rather than a “political” one, but his presence in the city had stirred up anger from LGBTQ+ residents. Numerous local activists, including leaders of local Pride events, had urged Seattle mayor Bruce Harrell to revoke Let Us Worship’s event permit.
Yet the event went ahead, and as members gathered in the fenced off rally space, a group of around 200 protestors gathered outside, kazoos in hand. Footage filmed at the event shows dozens playing the kazoos to the tune of “Pink Pony Club”, which Roan wrote after visiting a gay bar in Los Angeles. The song also played over speakers.

Some of the protesters held billowing Pride and trans flags, while others held placards that read “Conversion Therapy for Transphobes”, “Kazoo Karaoke”, “Protect Trans Youth” and “Jesus Taught Love, Not Hate”, according to The Seattle Times. Many were dressed in pink cowboy hats, reminiscent of those worn by Roan on tour and in promotional material.
Responding to the protest on X, Feucht wrote: “Poor guys. They tried their best. JESUS IS KING OVER SEATTLE!”
Speaking to KUOW, the protest organiser, named Rae, said that they wanted to bring “clown energy” to the religious event, as they felt Let Us Worship’s aim was to “rage bait our community into eliciting a response”.
“I pitched the kazoos. And my friend was like, ‘Well, why don’t we do like kazoo karaoke?’ And we were like ‘What do all the gays and the girlies love right now? It’s Chappell Roan,’ Rae explained.
Rae and their friends put their money together to purchase 350 kazoos, and swiftly learnt how to play the instrument via online tutorials.
The protest group was kept completely separate from the Let Us Worship attendees via fencing and Seattle police, and the protest remained peaceful throughout.
